Hack For Food, Hack For Good – London, England

The Hackathon series continues!

For the London edition, OpenDot, in collaboration with King's Health Partners, HIN - Health Innovation Network South London, and NHS South East London Integrated Care System, organized the second FEAST hackathon to support people in Southeast London to live healthier lifestyles and adopt healthier diets.

After a thorough discussion on the emerging needs and areas of intervention, the mentors and participants collaboratively identified the challenge: "How can we support adults with learning differences living with excess weight, to have healthy food choices?"

During this hackathon, the teams generated and developed innovative solutions aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles and driving meaningful change to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities.

Through our London Hackathon, the participants collaborated, co-created, and learned new skills in a creative environment during which they were joined by OpenDot designers and makers, international mentors (from King's Health Partners and WHO Europe), partners of the FEAST project, and industry experts.

The event!

The London hackathon was a three-day event held at Health Foundry, London, with 22 participants divided into four teams, collaboratively generating ideas.

During the first two days, participants were introduced to the hackathon's objectives and the co-design methodology, covering frames, goals, and tools. They also learned about initiatives from King's Health Partners and South East London Integrated Care System (SEL), including the SEL ICS/KHP Vital 5 program. The teams then discussed emerging needs and areas for intervention to identify the challenges they would address. With guidance from mentors and experts from OpenDot and King's Health Partners, each team developed its respective concept. On the third day, the teams presented their concepts and outlined the next steps for developing the winning idea.
