The FEAST Summer Schools

A Deep Dive into Food Systems Transformation

The Vision: Shaping a Win-Win-Win-Win Food Future

The FEAST Summer Schools form the core of the project’s educational activities. As part of FEAST’s contribution to a just transition towards healthy and sustainable diets, the project delivers a series of three specialised Summer Schools. These activities bring together a diverse, international cohort of participants from across Europe and beyond, fostering knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary learning, and collaboration. Going beyond conventional academic training, the FEAST Summer Schools function as immersive platforms for co-creation, supporting the project’s broader objectives and long-term impact.

The Experience: Four Days, Four Pillars

Each FEAST Summer School is structured as an intensive four-day "Deep Dive." While each of the three events focuses on a different regional or thematic lens, they all follow a rigorous, hands-on methodology designed to bridge the gap between theory and real-world impact.

Day 1: Systems Thinking & Framing – Unpacking the complexity of the food system and identifying the leverage points for change.

Day 2: Production & Environment – Exploring sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, and spatial planning.

Day 3: Behaviour & Policy – Understanding the psychology of food choice and the policy frameworks needed to support healthier environments.

Day 4: Action & Integration – Collaborating on practical outputs, such as Open Educational Resources (OER) or community-based solutions, that live on long after the school ends.

Who Should Join? A Multi-Actor Community

The strength of the FEAST project lies in its "Multi-Actor Approach." We invite a diverse range of participants to our summer schools to ensure that our solutions are as multi-faceted as the problems we face. We are looking for:

Early-Career Educators & Students: Eager to integrate food systems thinking into classrooms.

Researchers & Academics: Looking to apply interdisciplinary science to real-world challenges.

Policy & Health Professionals: Focused on creating environments that make the healthy choice the easy choice.

Food System Innovators: Passionate about community action and social innovation.

Note: Participation is typically free of charge, but spots are limited to ensure a high-impact, collaborative environment.

Our Summer School Series: Past, Present, and Future

FEAST is proud to facilitate three distinct Summer School editions throughout the project's lifespan (2022–2027). Each event builds on the insights of the last, creating a growing network of food system change-makers across Europe.

The First Edition (2025): Focus on "Food Systems in School Education" (Ludwigsburg, Germany). A landmark event that transformed participants into agents of change through the development of Open Educational Resources.

Upcoming Editions: Our next two Summer Schools will continue this journey, tackling new regional challenges and expanding our reach into different sectors of the food system.
