Health equity

an equal opportunity for every member of a society to attain the highest level of health. It is a desired condition in which everybody has just access to healthcare provision. Health equity is a global public health issue.  According to the American Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, “achieving health equity requires valuing everyone equally with focused and ongoing societal efforts to address avoidable inequalities, historical and contemporary injustices, and the elimination of health and health care disparities.” The state of health equity is dependent on structural determinants, such as institutional order, political, legal and economic frameworks, as well as on social and cultural norms. Achieving health equity is a critical goal of the European Union, included on the list of  EuroHealthNet’s priorities for the 2024-2029 EU policy landscape.
